Reading #7

Today I read another article in Dance Magazine. This article was about food that's right for you. The main point in this article is saying different people work better off different foods. For example if you do better eating oatmeal for breakfast, but your friend does better eating eggs. This article can show you whats right for you, and that you should not base you eating decisions/habits off of other peoples diets. There is also this thing called a blood type diet. What it says is that we should eat according to our blood type. For example blood type O work better of eating meat, they are more meat eaters. Blood type A works better of farm things like vegetarians. They say if you follow your blood type and what you should it you will work better, feel better, and be healthier. One of the main messages of this article is to tell you not to worry about what others are eating, eat what makes you feel good and what makes you full.

Reading #6 MLP

I read more of A Million Little Pieces today and they it was about James getting questioned about the night he got taken into the unit, and all the illegal things he has done. He has a possession, possession with intent to distribute, three DUI's, a bunch of vandalism and destruction of property charges, assault, assault with a deadly weapon, assaulting and officer of the law, public drunkenness, and disturbing the piece. He had done a lot wrong. This are all reasons why James has been taken into the unit, to turn his life around and make sure he doesn't do things liket his again. James also confesses that he has comtemplated suicide. This book is very interesting right now...it's a page turner. James has also been making a living on selling drugs. He has a lot to do while hes at the unit, and I'm excited to read on and see what happens and if he gets better, and maybe if he goes back to his old ways when he gets let out.

Neurblastoma Childhood Cancer Heros

Neurblastoma is a type of childhood cancer. Neuroblastoma is one of the rarest and most deadly. The fundraisers for childhood cancer research are great...but almost zero of the money goes to Neurblastoma. That's why these kids fighting are my hero's. When diagnosed with Neurblastoma most cases are 30% chance of survival. These kids almost have no chance...but when you see them all you see is hope. You see survival living through them, you see strength courage and life. Why is it these kids have EVERYTHING to lose but live with more then all of us, when we have everything right beside us. We can all learn something from these kids. Everyday when I wake up I think about what they have to do today, and what I have to do. They have to go through chemotherapy, radiation, bone marrow transplants, and I think my homework and dance is hard. But I have truly been blessed because I had this cancer (It's actually me in the two pictures above). But I am one of the lucky survivors, you won't see many. So please let these kids be your hero's, they can show you life and strength. After reading about them I'm sure you will look at life in a new way.

Quotes

If Children have the ability to ignore odds and percentages, then maybe we can all learn from them. When you think about it, what other chance is there but to hope? We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up, or fight like hell".

If you think you can do it, you can. If you believe you can do it, you will. If you trust you can do it, you will make a difference."

One of my good friends had neuroblastoma but sadly lost her life. Her journey was one of the greatest. she was also a dancer and she had cancer for over 4 years. She gives me strength still to this day. Her mother made a good quote about her strength and how Christi's fight went.

She bravely fought with the strength of a soldier while maintaining the grace and beauty of a ballerina - teaching life’s lessons along the way.

Read more about Christi she was truly amazing, she was child of the month it's a great story http://www.geocities.com/childofthemonth/FebruaryChristi.html. She also has a website http://www.christithomas.com/.

I also do a fundraiser every year called "Alex's Lemonade Stand". Alex is a little girl who also battled neuroblastoma but also lost her life. This is one of the greatest stories. When she was going through treatment she wanted to find a way to help other kids going through treatment. She told her parents she wanted to start a lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. This lemonade stand has become nation wide and has been going on for 5 years. Alex is one of the biggest hero's because even though she is not here today she is helping other kids survive. Her fundraiser is one of the biggest. This just shows how much a child can do. Alex is my hero.

Alex at her stand. Alex's Book. Some friends and I helping at the stand.

Alex also wrote a book which her video is based on..its very cool. Watch her video it will truly touch your heart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM9GbaSsUaE
The people in my life that are hero's are these kids. They are not known superheros but they do have super strength, more then super hero's in movies. These kids go through more in 1-4 years then many people do in there whole life. I hope you learned something from them and read there stories and watched the videos. I hope they can be your hero's too.

MLP

I read more of A Million Little Pieces today. In what I read today they James was remembering everything that had happened at the rehabilitaion unit and how he got there. When he got there he met this mand named Roy. Roy told James all the rules and what he is supposed to do. James is trying to remember everything else but it's hard for him because of what he is going through. He remembers getting there and meeting a girl named Lilly. Roy tells him he can't talk to her because shes a girl...thats a rule not to talk to women. He remembers getting in the unit and meeting the people there. Most of them were addicts and had been in jail. They ask him weird questions and want him to play cards. James is tired and wants to sleep. James has no idea what he is getting in to. This is going to be a long and hard process. I'm excited to read on and see what James's thoughts are as hes going through rehab.

Dancing in college

I read another article from dance magazine and it's about dancing in college. I was glad to read this because I have wanted to dance in college but I still can't decide. It had good reason to..because you meet new people, feel apart of the school, get exercise, and have fun. But a big point they said was to make sure school is number one. School should always come before dance..even if its hard. Dance is also great to do in college because it's a great way to let your emotions out and feelings. If you had a rough day it's nice to be able to dance. For me and other dancers that usually helps. This article made my thinking on college dancing a little clearer but I'm still not sure yet.

Dance Magazine Article

I read an article in dance magazine about managing your time with dance and school. Yeah it might sounds stupid but I actually picked up some good things. One of the things I have been starting to do is making a "to do list". It actually helps because it makes me get things done. I know exactly what I have to do and then it makes me actually sit down and do my homework and not forget things. Another good thing was setting dead lines for myself. I tend to get things done at the last minute...which is not good. If I set a goal and say when I want to get it done and that I have to get it done...I will. All of this helps me be more organized and get better grades and manage my time with all the school work and dance going on.

I read more of A Million Little Pieces. It talks about how James (the main character) he is in the lounge room watching t.v. and all the sudden he just goes numb. He falls to the floor and tries to move but he can't. He can't feel anything and he just lies there till someone moves him. That would be the worst..almost like a little episode of locked in syndrome. Another part talks about when the doctor is cleaning James up, his fast mostly. He has to break his nose and put it back together to fix it...OUCH! But it makes it better. James is not getting much better, he has to take six sets of pills everyday. I'm very anxious to read on to see what happens to him.

A Million Little Pieces 2

Sorry this is a day late. But now I have read on a little bit and they are talking about what the man is experiencing while getting better and not drinking. His face is swollen and he feels pain and sickness when he can't drink. Getting over something like this is really hard to stop because its hard on your body to go from having so much to nothing. It also talks about his family coming to see him and how sad they are. It's hard for them to see him like this but they are assured he is in the best place. They all cry and give him hugs as the doctors re assure that he will be okay.

A Million Little Pieces

I started reading this book called A Million Little Pieces, it's a very good and interesting book. It's about a man who goes to rehab because he is an alcoholic. He is very sick at the beginning of the book because he can have nothing to drink. It's scary to see what his can do to you. It really changes my views about drinking and bad decisions. I am currently not very far in the book but am eager to read on and see what happens to this man. I want to see if he makes it through or quits and gives up and goes back to his old lifestyle. This book could really show strength and I like to read about that.
