Blog #7 change

I actually read in article in the Star Tribune about change. This is about the fashions at the Oscars. I know this is not a very important kind of change, but it is showing that fashion styles change every year. This year was a big year for showing off the shoulder. Many women came in just showing one shoulder and some even showing two. They say some outfits are changing in a bad way because they show off to much of your body. I agree that clothing styles have changed and that sometimes they show to much. It can be very degrading to show to much of the body, and you can also lose respect from that. So even if they fashion styles are chaging, I would be careful on what you chose because you wouldn't want unessicary things to be said about you.

Blog #6 hope

I actually read a sort of biography of me. Not a biography but more of an insight of my journey through cancer. The reason I believe this is and article on hope is because the paper says all that I have gone through with my cancer including, chemotherapy, radiation, removing my bone marrow, surgeries, and so much of it all that even that together could have killed me. But my parents did what ever they could to keep me alive. And all that I had gone through I came out on top. I was diagnosed with at 30% chance of survival, and the doctors doubted my odds. But look at this miracle, and look at me now. I give people all over the world hope. Not even just about cancer, but about life. If I as such a young child can get through so much and beat all odds, they can get through their problems. Sometimes people just need to look at the bigger picture in life. But the best feeling to me is when someone tells me I give them hope. It gives me shivers and makes me happy, because I know I can help someone.

Blog #5, Religion

I read another article in the Star Tribune and this article is about the Pope telling Jewish leaders he will visit Isreal. This is a big deal because the Pope wins praise from the Holocaust denial, and will visit Isreal in May. This visit really touches the Jewish leaders. I think it's a great thing for the Pope to do, because if one visit can make so many people happy and change the looks of their church then he definetily should do it. There has also only been one other Pope who has traveled to a Jewish state. The American Jewish orginization had a meeting with the Pope and bishops and were deneying things that happened in the holocaust. They said that the slaughter of six million Jews was a crime agaisnt God. I do not know if I believe this because God does not make crimes under my belief, the holocaust was a horrible thing that we cannot erase. I wish more then anything it did not happen, but we cannot always deny the things that happened, but maybe they are right. I would like to know how this visit goes and what happens.

Blog # 4, Gender Roles

I read in article in the the Star Tribune about a church taking a stance and gay ordination. Now I don't know if this has much to do about gender, but I personally think it does. The reason I say this is because it should not matter what gender you are to be able to have a marriage. This is about gender roles because you should not have to be a certain gender to do a certain thing. There are no more roles in this world today. Husband and wife used to be very sterotypical a long time ago. The world is not like that today at all. Women are out getting jobs doing their own thing, why shouldn't two people of the same gender be able to have a happy marriage just like anyone else can? Things are changing and things that used to not be okay are okay now. I think this is something you are born with and its not fair if they can't have the same rights as anyone else...it just doesn't make sense. Even though I am a strong christian I still think gay marriage should be legal. Because I believe God makes you the way you are, and if thats the way you were born, then let them live the life they want. Now this fits into gender roles because I believe that their are not gender roles and any gender should be able to do anything.

#3 Different cultures

I read an article about clothing in different cultures, and also how it compares to ours. They said clothing is just becoming more and more common. You will find jeans and a t-shirt everywhere. Their are still types of dressing that reflect your culture that people wear. They are making an exhibit about clothing and their heritages. Clothing from every continent of the world will be their. This would be a really cool thing to see because you could have much more of a feel for the other countries in this world. I feel like Americas clothes don't mean as much to us as other cultures, for instance. In Norway a blouse called a brooch and it's reflectivity is believed to ward off demons. In America we don't really have clothing that has meaning like that. I think it would be really cool to check this exhibit out. It's kind of a bummer that all the cultures are staring to become simple and all just going with the jeans and t-shirts. But I guess whatever is comfy?

#2 Overcoming sturggle or facing a difficulty

I read an article in the StarTribune today about a baby named Angel, and her mother. Angels mom died in a car accident while Angel was in her stomach at only 4 months old. The mom didn't even know her daughter was pregnant. This was a miracle Angel survived the accident and is still living. They doctors didn't even think she would live past the birth, but she overcame that and survived. She is overcoming difficulties everyday she is living. Everyday could be a new day and she could not survive. She needs the be given oxygen daily, and is always being watched. They decided to name her Angle because they brought in a priest and he said if she passed she would need a name for heaven, so they thought the name Angel would be a good fit. This story really touched me. She overcame so much and before people didn't even know she was living. She really is an angel and I think she will live with a great story, and help many people in her life. It's nice for the family to have something of their daughters, they lost but also gained. I hope the baby lives through this all and has a great life, I definetly know she will be loved.

Quarter 3 blog #1, Natural Disaster

I read an article on the effects of hurricane katrina. The effects were very serve and long lasting. The article says by August 31 there was 15 feet of water, enough to drown anyone. The article also says 90 percent of people were evacuated very well, but that still leaves that 10 percent. And even though the people were evacuated their homes and lives were all crushed. They no longer had a place to live, no food right there, and even some families were departed. I don't know what I would do if I was caught into this situation. My life would definetly be flipped around. But there were many fundraisers to help the people living their and to get there lives back on track. But this is very long lasting because things will never be the same for them. The still have many things lost, and even just the thought of it. I wish things like this didn't have to happen.
