Paragraph

The genocide in Darfur caused many people to die, and many people to try to escape. The government in Darfur are killing innocent people for no reason. In the past five years 400,000 civilians have died. This is not right, this many people should not be dying for no apparent reason. In Darfur 90% of target villages have been destroyed. This are the places where all of the Darfur people live. How would you feel if people were destroying your neighborhood and where you live? The people in Darfur try to escape. 250,000 people in Darfur have escaped to a place close called Chad. The people who have escaped are now facing violence there. Women are a main target, they are especially a main target for sexual assault. 80% of all people displaced are women. These women and even young girls are constant victims of sexual violence and are abducted into sexual slavery. Too many people are dying in Darfur, these are all true facts.

Blog #15 overcoming odds

Starting treatment with 30% chance of survival.
Now look, beat all the odds and is here today
as healthy as can be.

I read another article about myself. I don't just read these articles because I think what I went through was cool, but I feel people should know about my journey because its a type of journey most people never get to take. I'm not saying this is a good journey, but its a journey I learned to live my life by. I over came all the odds of the doctors. The doctors gave me a 30% chance of survival at diagnosis. Of course about a year later the cancer was totally gone and I was as healthy as most children. The doctors also told me that I would be short for my age, again this is wrong. I have always been one of the tallest in my grade. I overcame these odds with the help of a lot of people. We like to put all of our faith in God, that's the biggest reason I believe I survived. I believe God put me on this earth with this journey to teach others. I hope I can fulfill what I am set out to do in this world. We also have to thank the doctors that helped me beat these odds. Not may people get the chance to overcome odds like this, and some people that do get the chance do not make it. I consider myself one of the most lucky people in the world. I believe we are all lucky, but I consider myself lucky because I get to share my cool journey. When I tell people I had cancer they usually look at me shocked and ask "are you okay?" and they really know I am its just their first reaction. After I tell them about it they will act very interested and say they want to help, when really after 10 minutes they forget about it. No one really has any idea what its like to overcome something like this. That's why I really wish that I can send my story out, and have people realize how lucky they are to have their life. I hope my journey with overcoming odds can touch the world.

Blog #14 Love

Love. What is love? Does anyone actually know what love is? I think love is a different feeling for everyone. It is something you can't explain or find until you know you could never care or feel that way about something else. I believe there are different types of love. You can love somoene because you care about them, and want whats best for them. There is also being 'in' love. Being 'in' love is when you are with someone and you become one. You are ment for eachother and are ment to stay together and could never be with another person but them, and you are willing to go through the many struggles that a relationshipe and life brings together. Love is a great and hard thing. These are just my feelings about it, I also read an article on some facts on wikipedia, lets see how my thoughts and theres differ. It says love is any number of emotions related to a strong affection. The article also says love can refer to a variety of feelings, this is something that I agree on. The article also says love is like mammalian drive, its like hunger or thirst. They are saying love is something we need. I agree with this statement a lot. Everyone in life wants to be wanted and needs to be love. I know you want to be independent and take care of ourselves but sometimes we need that one person to lend us a hand, and tell us that we are great and wanted. Love is something that can never really be explained. I am excited to see for myself what my love is and what comes upon it in my life.

Article This is the website I used for my research paper.

I found a very informational website about the genocide in Darfur. This website also shows you how you can help and prevent the genocide in Darfur. The article had many facts about the genocide and how to prevent it. Here are some of the facts.
  • 400,000 civilians have died in the past five years.
  • 90% of targeted villages have been destroyed in Darfur.
  • 250,000 people have Left Darfur to go to Chad, but they are also facing violence there.
  • 80% of people displaced are women, these women and young girls are constant victims of sexual violence and are abducted into sexual slavery.

People in Darfur have no where to go. We need to help them because they try to escape but yet where they escape to are also victims of violence. Those are just a couple of facts that I have put in my own words. I think these facts will be very helpful and useful in the research paper because they show the reality of Darfur.

There are also somethings that we can do to help stop this violence. Even our school here at EHS is helping to stop the genocide. We need to help Darfur because the people there have no other place to turn to. How would you feel if you were left in a situation that horrible that you can't get out of it? The biggest thing we can do is join and advocacy group. And in that group we need to contact the president so we knows, and can do something. The more people to contact the president the better, because then he'll know more people car and are thinking about it. Therefor he will most likely do something about it.

Research Paper: Genocide in Darfur

I found a good website about the our topic genocide in Darfur. They website is...http://www.genocideindarfur.net/.....The website showed all different groups about preventing and help stopping the genocide. It's the government in Darfur that are killing all the innocent people there. This is defiantly not fair and we need to do something about it. There are other places that are supported by the rest of the world. Darfur is not supported, we need to help them and stop this genocide. They three types of groups they have listed on website are Genocide Intervention network, Sudan Investment, and STAND. STAND is a group we have at the school that I am actually in. These groups are there to help stop the genocide.

Blog #13 war

I read an article on the Star Tribune website about Iraq. This article doesn't tell much about the war the but more about the side affects from the war. Their were so many killings there and so many people being lost, things started to change. Since so many people were being killed I guess they forgot about the dogs? Iraq has over populated dogs, now they are killing stray dogs. The article says people are hunting them down and killing them, slaughtering some 10,000 in Baghdad since December. They people are shouting "Give us clean water instead of killing dogs!" This makes much sense because later in the article a women says, "The dogs are not harming us, the water is." Most people in Iraq still lack the most basic services such as sewage system and potable water. This issue is a lot more meaningful and bigger then their issue of dogs. I don't understand why they would go around killing dogs if they are doing no harm. I understand that the dogs may not have food and could be hard to take care of and it might just be even a nice way of letting them go. But I think this just shows Iraq's lack of focus. After the war they were very run down, and now they are focusing on killing stray dogs instead of the health of their people? That seems a little off. I know we tried to help Iraq but they didn't really want it. I still think we could give it a try because we have it so much better here then they do. I think Iraq just really needs to focus on what needs to be done for their country instead of worrying about the little things, which thought will come into play sometime. But for now they need to grow strong and healthy.

Blog #12 Imperialism

I read an artical about imperialism, or more so what imperialsim is because I didn't really know what it was. This article says imperialism is "the policy and practice of forming and maintaining an empire" they say this mostly refers to the the empires in Europe during the past 500 years. They use they same kind of qualities about Imperialisms and our world today. They use it with economic, technology, colonzing, and many skills we want people today have. Imperialsim started a long time ago but we still use many of the techniques today. Even though it's different we can still see how we got ideas from a long time ago. Imperialism is about growning and creating. Weather it's a building or government or how we do things. I think it's cool how we can take an idea from something so long ago and build it with things today. Imperialism has helped our government today, and the forming of our cities.

Blog # 11 global issue

I read an article in the sun current about a global issue. It's about the United States buying bonds and poor nations are suffering. The article says Americans are ditching foreign ventures and taking money home. They say these actions are lifting the value of the dollar. Obama is trying to rescue banks and do whats best for us in a time like this. This is really hard because now where the problem started in the United States we are bringing problems to other places. And the market is so bad we really need to get out of stocks and bonds, it's just going to hurt people more. And buying bonds from other countries won't work because they economy is most likely going to go down hill also. It says low income countries are getting hit very hard. The flow of private capital to the emerging market has dried up. This economy is really scaring me. My family and I really have to watch how much money we spend. It starts to scare me because I know my parents work so hard, and we have 2 kids in college and I am very expensive. I just really hope this gets better because my dad comes home everyday so bummed out about everything. It's really not fair. And by the time I go to college prices will be up a lot more, which is going to be something very hard for us to afford. I just really hope things start to get better me family really needs it.

Blog #10 holiday

I read an article on Wikipedia about Valentines Day. The reason I chose to right and article about Valentines Day is because I know it's not a religious holiday and it's just a calender holiday. I wanted to know how and why they decided to make this a holiday, it's very interesting. This holiday was named after to early Christians named valentine, this became associated with romantic love, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. This holiday has gone on since the 19th century and that's when it started with greeting cards. In Great Britain in the 19th century cards and Valentines Day was very popular. The Greeting Card Associating says that one billion cards are sent out in the whole world on this day. The second leading holiday for greeting cards after Christmas. Wow this one really surprised me, Valentines Day isn't even a real holiday just something someone made up and it makes that much money. It's weird that people follow through with it. It also says men spend twice as much money as women. Why is it that it's always the men's job to figure out the plans and buy the nice things? That one just always gets to me but I guess it's okay cause I'm the girl! But I also thing Valentines Day sets people up for disappointment. If you have a boyfriend or married or whatever the case you always hope and expect for this great day. Which usually never happens because all food places are full, and everything is packed. I think you should always shoot low. Just being with that special person should be enough. My dream Valentines Day would just be cooking dinner with my boyfriend and watching a movie with a fire, and just being together. I think Valentines Day should just be about being together and not the money or the gifts or anything. Just happiness, togetherness, joy, and love :)

Blog #9 Bollywood

I read in article just about Bollywood itself. Its really interesting in how they are made. They have to have a certain amount of songs and many other restrictions. I really enjoyed watching Bride and Prejudice it really showed me how different our culture and Indian culture is. Bollywood movies are very interesting because they can be not about a musical at all, but yet they many songs in it. It can be a somewhat serious movie but still with the songs. But most Bollywood movies are supposed to be intertaining and mostly funny. I would really like to watch more Bollywood movies to really get the sence down on how they make them.

Blog #8 culture

I read an article in the Star Tribunes about Liberians. These Liberians are living here and are going to be forced to move out of Minnesota and back to Liberia. Their temporary permission to live here ends March 31. The difference between Liberia and the United States are vast. The Liberian families have to go back to a war-ravaged place where there is no electricity, their is no running water, and people are only expected to live until they are 42. Liberia is so different then the United States I can see why people wouldn't want to live there. I think we should figure something better out for the people that have to go back their. It's really sad to see them have to go their, it's no like we chose where we were going to be born, nor did they. We really need to do something. We should really help where the problem starts which is Liberia itself. That would be a good thing to do since we are so lucky to live where we do today.
