I read another article in the Edina Sun Current.  This article is about the little girl Abigail Taylor who had the extreme pool accident at the Minneapolis Golf Club kiddy pool.  Her organs were sucked out of the back end of her.  Sadly Abigail did not live.  Now they are making new pool safety and regulation rules.  Her pool safety act went into affect in Minnesota on Jan. 1.  New federal pool regulations went into affect Dec. 19.  Pool and spa operators had one year to comply with the new federal regulations.  Now all public pools and spas must have a compliant drain covers and an anti-entrapment system when there is only a single main drain.  They are making this a big deal because they don't want it to happen to any other child because it's not fair.  I think this is very smart and safe.  It should not have happened to Abigail, but it did so they need to prevent it from it happening to any other child.

I read an article in the Sun Current about the Edina Dance Team.  The article is rather short but it talks about how the Edina dance team took 2nd place at a very tough dance competition in Apple Valley.  And that they had a conference meet in Amrstrong the next week.  This article may mean nothing to some people, but to Edina dance team it means a lot.  The reason this article means so much is because Edina dance team are the underdogs.  In the previous years they would have never scored that well at a dance competition.  They have recently changed from hornettes being a fall and winter sport, to hornettes in the fall and Dance Team in the winter.  So you have the option of doing either.  The reason Edina dance team is coming out is because the girls on the team are the girls that really want to be there and that work hard.  Edina dance team has gained more respect and fans in this past season.  They are definitely going somewhere and will keep stepping up each year.  I can't wait to see how it goes in the next few years.

I read an article about the movie "Marley and Me".  The article was titled 'Marley'.  The article said this movie has been on top for 2 straight weeks.  The movie was a big draw for the next year.  It came with the number one slot adding 24.1 million to the box.  The movies total stake stands 106.5 million.  The office was strong with an estimated seven percent comparing the the 2008 New Years weekend.  Marley and Me is a great movie for anyone.  It's great for family and kids.  Yet it is supposed to be extremely sad.  I have yet to see this movie but I am really trying to get to the theater to see it.  I think this movie will be one of the biggest of the year.  They only reason I think that would be holding people back from seeing this is that it is very sad.  I would not like to be on that misses out on seeing this movie.

I read an article about fighting colds and how sleep effects one getting a cold. The more sleep you get, the lower the chance of catching a cold. Researchers paid healthy adults $800 to have cold viruses sprayed up their noses and wait in a hotel for five days to see if they got sick. The people who had eight hours of sleep were much less likely to get sick than those who slept for less than seven hours. Also, people who slept less than seven hours a night in the weeks before they became exposed to the virus, were three times as likely to catch a cold than the ones who slept longer. I think that one should get the sleep while they can to prevent from getting colds, since its no fun to be sick!

I read an article in the Edina Magazine.  This article is about a women and her family going to Uganda and helping the kids their.  Ann Hill is the lady and she started going their in 2001 as a mission trip.  They went to Rakai, Uganda it is home to the first AIDS diagnosis in the world.  The disease is very bad their.  Ann's goal is to raise awareness of the situation in central Africa and to work on a solution.  She started a group called African Children Today, and that partnered with Rakai Orphans Development Initiative.  These two groups are working to educate kids in Rakai, especially the young girls.  I think this is so great of the lady.  She is for sure making a difference in the world, and especially teaching her children a good lesson.  I hope I can change the world like that some day.

I read an article in the Eden Prairie magazine.  This article is about how snowplowing is becoming almost a sport.  In St. Cloud they have annual snowplow races.  The race is extremely hard because they don't know what truck they will be given before they start the race.  They have to go through cones and very narrow paths.  I think this is very interesting and cool.  But I also think this could be very unsafe.  They didn't mention anything about it being unsafe or anyone getting hurt, so maybe this could actually become a sport, it looks like it's on it's way.  We could for sure do it here because we definitely have enough snow for these competitions.

I read an article on a monster truck jam.  There was a monster truck jam show this weekend, and a boy died in it.  In washington State.  The boy was hit what a part of the care while they were doing donuts.  A man in the truck hit the boy while doing donuts.  I feel really bad for the boy because it wasn't even his fault he was just a spectator.  I think they need to make better safety rules for this because obviously they aren't good enough.  This boy was six years old.  He was with his family and they were just trying to have a good time at the show, and all of a sudden there kid dies.  This is not fair.  They had a moment of silence at each show after him.  They need to fix their safety rules.  This is not fair for a family paying to see this show for their child to die.

Today I read an article about a man that went running in the cold weather today. He also said it was nothing because he had ran in weather negative 25 degrees. Personally I think this is stupid and pointless and very unsafe. You could have frost bite everywhere and get very sick form doing this. And for what reason is he doing this? To prove a point? What point? I think in general people do crazy stuff like this just to get attention. People will do crazy things to get on T.V. or to get in the news. I doubt he saw anyone else out there running in this weather, it's a crazy scary thing to do. I can barely walk outside to my car in this weather. Well I can't wait to see what other things people do to get attention, weather it means harming themselves.

Reading #10

I read apart of a book today called A Window To Heaven.  This book is about is about kids who have cancer and how people find strength and life through them.  A question is asked in this book and the question is, "How can a loving God let innocent children suffer and die?".  The question is never really answered in the book I found but there are many other things I can think of.  I can't think of something reasonable for this but something you can't find anywhere else.  People learn more from these kids about their lives then any other places.  These kids show them so much fight and strength that people can take away from them.  It shows people faith and that their is a reason to fight and believe.  Some people never have to go through battles like this and they are very lucky, but it seems to me those people are the less greatful.  All the people I know who have suffered and are suffering find the brighter things in life, and they enjoy even the littlest things.  They teach us we need to step back and just enjoy little things because we don't know how long we will have those little things so easy.

I read my chemistry book today.  I read about water and its three phases, solid, liquid, and gas.  Water can freeze at 0 degrees celcius but it can also become at liquid at 0 degrees celcius.  They can be doing the same thing at the same time.  I found that very interesting and I wonder how that can happen.  I also learned that ice is less dence then water that is the opposite of other substances.  That is why when a pond or lake freezes it freezes at the top first then to the bottom.  But another thing I learned was that at the bottom of the lake or pond the water is always at 4 degrees celcius.  Water is the only kind of chemical that when it is turned into a solid it is less dense
